What is U21?
For the 2024-25 season, U21 is for 2004, 2005 and 2006 birth years.

Can 2003 play as Overage (OA) in U21?
BC Hockey has approved OA players in the past but we need to apply on a case-by-case basis.

When does the season start?
Officially, the first ice time is in the third week of September.  If your gear is not here yet,or arrives late, don't panic.  You can join anytime.

Where is the ice time?
Ice contracts are pending, but with an expanded format, the program will see games played at multiple facilities.

When does the season end?
The season ends in mid-March (apart from any remaining tournaments), but there are breaks for holidays and reading week etc.

Do I need to play every week?
NO - the schedule will include weeks with a "bye".  However, when your team is scheduled for a game, you should plan to participate.

Is there a drop-in rate?
NO - for administrative purposes, the program is designed as a season-long experience.  To secure the ice and guarantee the program, we need as many players registered as possible early in the season. (However, registration does remain open until Feb 5, 2025 if you want to join later).

Are there practices?
With the expanded format for 2024-25, there will be very few practices.  The focus will be on game play.

Who do we play?
1) House League - We expect to have at least 4 teams in 2024-25 and possibly 5.  There will be a playoff round with Semifinals and a Championship game.
2) We also have the option to host selected local Senior Women's teams and they could invite you back.
3) PCAHA U21 teams - In the past we have hosted Vancouver Angels and Richmond Ravens, who come to Victoria for a double header (2 games on the same day).  We've also had interest from Tricities Predators in the past.
4) Tournaments - U21 Tournaments on the mainland are an option (entry fee not included in registration).

The registration form asks for my parents' names and contact info.  Do I need to supply that?
Our form is for all players age 5 - 20.  If you are below the age of majority (19), please supply parental information.  We consider all U21 players to be full voting members of the Association.

I really want to play, but my gear is in (insert name of hometown here)?
Tell your folks to ship it right now!  CRFMHA does have a limited supply of gently used gear for loan.  CRFMHA will reimburse 50% of the cost of economy/ground shipping if you supply a receipt.

Why is Registration only reduced for goalies?
It sucks to play without a goalie.

Is financial assistance available?
YES - We have some assistance available.  Confidential inquiries can be made to: registrar@crfmha.ca

Is there a minimum skill level?
In the past, we've had teams with a mix of a few former AAA players, a few A players and a few C players... but this is mainly for fun and recreational in nature.  If you aren't sure if it is right for you, watch the first session and then decide.

Can I join if I've only played Ringette in the past?
Ringette players are great skaters, fantastic passers and great teammates, so YES you can join and we will teach you how to shoot the puck!  You will need a new stick.

Are there coaching opportunities?
YES - we have 20 younger teams from U7 to U18.
You can be involved with those teams as Assistant Coaches or On-ice Helpers, depending on your availability and interest... (okay,... no one actually asked that question, but it is an opportunity for you to give back to the game you love so much... in fact, you can do this even if you decide not to play U21.  We can help you find coaching courses and reimburse the registration fees if you complete your certification).

Are there any "hidden" fees?
Well... no one asked that either, but in the interest of full disclosure... You pay your Basic Registration Fee of $425 to play.  There is ALSO a jersey deposit of $150 that is paid at registration and is refunded when you retire and leave CRFMHA (assuming you leave your jersey behind and in good condition).
